I caught some links going around Facebook talking about World Cancer Day, and after some investigation I have a few pieces of solid information about it. However, most of the general information can be found at www.worldcancerday.org.

It appears that this celebration is fairly new, and may be in its first year of notoriety. Regardless, the cause is genuine and involves all cancers. World Cancer Day will be officially on February 4, 2012. This day will be a time to show your support to end all cancers of the world. There will probably be a lot of media messages going around this day about the event. Also, if you are a supporter than you are encouraged to post your profile photo as something that represents this day.

On the World Cancer Day official website, you will find a petition to sign. The direct link to this petition is: http://www.worldcancerday.org/declaration/sign-world-cancer-declaration. The petition offers supporters a chance to "help bring the growing cancer crisis to the attention of government leaders and health policymakers in order to significantly reduce the global cancer burden by 2020" (World Cancer Day, 2012). On the same website, you will also find resources for the press, worldwide events, and facts and figures about all types of cancers.
