I got one of the best phone calls I have ever received today - confirmation that a local hospital will be funding a lung cancer support group, hosted by me!

The following is the press release for this support group.
1ST LUNG CANCER SUPPORT GROUP AT LOCAL NEW JERSEY HOSPITAL
Coming soon to Kennedy Hospital in Cherry Hill, New Jersey: Support group dedicated to lung cancer patients, survivors, friends and family members seeking community.
Attention to all that have been impacted by lung cancer - your support community is on its way! In the next few months Kennedy Hospital in Cherry Hill, New Jersey will be introducing their first ever cancer support group. The meetings will be held once per month for one hour - the reoccurring day and time to be determined. All current patients and survivors are welcomed, including friends and family members seeking co-survivor support. For those who cannot attend and want to be involved, a webinar or telephone conference will be available every meeting day and time.
Kennedy Health System offers three branches of hospitals in New Jersey, which includes Cherry Hill, Stratford, and Turnersville. Each location offers a series of support groups for people living within the community, however until now the Cherry Hill location has never had a cancer based support group. Kennedy is the only local healthcare system member of the Penn Cancer Network, which collaborates with “Penn’s Abramson Cancer Center to offer a full range of quality, comprehensive services for cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, support and follow-up.” - Kennedy Health System
The support group will be hosted by Heather Geraghty, a one year survivor of lung cancer. Miss Geraghty was diagnosed with Stage 1A lung cancer at the age of 24 years old. Since her diagnosis, Miss Geraghty has been a continuing advocate for lung cancer by speaking at local events, fundraising, maintaining an online blog, and managing a Facebook page all dedicated to the cause. Last year Miss Geraghty received the first Kathryn Fusco Humanitarian Award for her efforts, and this year she plans to continue her goal to raise awareness and rid the world of the disease.
Miss Geraghty is a proud supporter of the LUNGevity Foundation, an organization dedicated to funding the most promising research for early detection of lung cancer. LUNGevity also has the largest online support community, which has been co-created by Katie Brown. Miss Brown maintains her own lung cancer support group in her state of Texas, however remains a role model for all those beginning their own group in areas across the country. Miss Brown’s involvement of the organization began in “November of 2002 shortly after her father’s small cell lung cancer diagnosis.” - LUNGevity Foundation
