Hope is both the earliest and the most indispensable virtue inherent in the state of being alive. If life is to be sustained hope must remain, even where confidence is wounded, trust impaired. --Erik Erikson

Reflection on Recent Lung Cancer Fighters
I wanted to tell you all about some recent losses caused by lung cancer. First of all, Carol R. Johnston formerly of West Deptford, NJ. I met Carol almost one year ago at my 1st Annual Lung Cancer Fundraiser. She was a petite and fragile woman, but a fighter nonetheless. Carol was most inspiring at her table that night as she sat with men and women of all ages, each had their own cancer story to tell and all showed their support for Carol's survival.
Carol is seen in the first photo, in the middle, taken during the 1st Annual Lung Cancer Fundraiser held at Fontana's in Maple Shade, NJ (Sept 2011).
I found out today that Stephanie Spar passed away on Monday. I met Stephanie only once at a LUNGevity Foundation gathering in Washington, DC. She was the first person I spoke to upon arriving at the foundation's weekend Hope Summit event. If my mind remembers correctly, she was technically the first person I ever met with lung cancer (besides myself, of course). After that, my friend Harriet has been the first person I ever met suffering from lung cancer in my home town. Anyway, back to Stephanie, as like Carol we weren't particularly close but we shared a common goal - finding a cure for lung cancer. I will miss chatting with Stephanie online when The Big C begins its third season on Showtime. Stephanie is seen in the second photo, one that I have taken from a blog named 'BlatherWatch'. The blog, 'BlatherWatch' is noteworthy when speaking about her, which reads: "She was the mistress of the pride of kitties that overrun our home; made long-lasting friendships, was a gifted gardener, baker, concierge, world traveler, lover of fine bakeries, and an excellent partner and neighbor in a quiet life on a quiet street."
After posting my last message to Stephanie on her Facebook page, I found this video on her profile. Please watch, learn, and share.
Together we will cure lung cancer.
